When do lenders consider settlement?
Lenders usually consider settling an unsecured loan or credit card when the borrower has a genuine hardship, payments are already overdue, and the borrower can pay a reduced amount within a short time. Every lender has its own policy and none is obliged to agree.
Secured loans such as home or vehicle loans are rarely settled the same way, because the lender can recover the asset.
Why we sometimes say “not yet”
A settled account is reported as “settled” to credit bureaus and can make new credit hard to get for some time. If you are still able to pay — even with difficulty — restructuring or a repayment plan may be better for you in the long run.
Questions about this tool
Does this check affect my credit score?
No. It doesn’t access your credit report, and your answers stay in your browser unless you choose to request a call back.
Is the result a guarantee?
No. It is general guidance based on your answers. Only your lender can agree to a settlement, and a specialist needs to review your accounts to give a realistic estimate.
